Your pet’s journey may involve several separate pieces — airline or cargo arrangements, Animal Quarantine Service (AQS), airport procedures, ground transportation, pet hotel stays, and destination-country requirements.

PAWer’s Wish can help connect the pieces of your journey that fall within our services and coordinate with other pet transport professionals when needed.

Airline pet policies vary by breed, crate size, route, aircraft, season, and whether the pet travels with the owner or as cargo.

These flyers are a general reference based on published airline policies. Final acceptance must always be confirmed with the operating airline or cargo department for your specific journey.

Bringing a dog or cat into Japan requires Animal Quarantine Service (AQS) procedures before arrival.

The requirements depend on where your PAW is traveling from, and preparation may need to begin several months before the journey.

Depending on the country or region of origin, requirements may include:

• Microchip identification
• Rabies vaccinations
• Rabies antibody testing and a waiting period
• Advance notification to AQS
• Government-endorsed health documentation
• Import inspection upon arrival in Japan

Requirements are different for pets arriving from Japan-designated rabies-free regions, so always confirm the current requirements for your PAW’s specific journey directly with AQS.

Planning early is important. For dogs and cats, advance notification to the Animal Quarantine Service at the expected port of entry is generally required at least 40 days before arrival.

PAWer’s Wish can help connect the arrival portion of the journey with ground transportation and other support after your PAW has completed the required arrival procedures.
